Booking tuition with Alison
Sessions are available to purchase via the Knitrospective online shop. There are three regular packages available; two hours, three hours or a full day (five hours with a break for lunch). This can be focused on knit, crochet, spinning with hand spindles or on a spinning wheel and preparing fibre for spinning using a blending board or drum carder.
When booking on the Shop page, you’ll be asked to complete a short form to provide some helpful information. We can then agree a mutually convenient time to arrange your session.
There’s always biscuits, cake and plenty of tea or coffee to keep you going (please provide information about any allergies and intolerances - we know plenty about those!).
Discounts are available for groups of 3 or more - please use the contact form to see if what you’d like to do is possible before making a purchase
I am also experienced in and available for peripatetic work with third sector organisations - please do talk to me about activities and rates

Two Hour Tuition
In a two hour session, Alison will help you to work with on a small aspect of knit, crochet or spinning. Perhaps you’d like a brief introduction or taster session, or to focus on a specific skill like mastering a crochet square or come up with a solution to a challenge with a tricky pattern. This can also work well if you’d like a regular 1-1 personalised workshop to help you develop skills over a period of time or coach you through a bigger project like knitting a first sweater..
-
Three Hour Tuition
In a three hour (half day) session, you may like to explore a particular technique in knit, crochet or spinning. Perhaps you would like to develop a new skill like Shetland Lace Knitting, design your own shawl or experiment with different ways of connecting crochet granny squares together to make homewares or garments. A half day is perfect to refresh an old skill or pick up a new way of making which you can then continue at home.
-
Full Day Tuition
For a full day session, you have the luxury of a deep dive into several elements of either knit, crochet or spinning. Perhaps you want to build up a new crochet technique from scratch, learn to knit socks, move from a drop spindle to try a spinning wheel and ply your first mini skein of yarn, or experiment with creative different blends of fibre for spinning or felting. With lots of time to explore, a full day allows you to respond to the things which really interest you personally. (Bring your own lunch - and we will take as many breaks as you wish)

Sewing Machine Confidence 1-1
Not sewn for a while? Machine gathering dust, want to try a new pattern or move on to something new?
Bring your own machine to the studio, I can give ir s wee check over and we can spend time making something sitting alongside one another - a simple bag, a small quilt, a top or dress - let’s talk.
Aimed at people who want to come back to sewing or build their confidence up to go for it happily at home.

Creative Making Mentoring 1-1
Feeling fuzzy headed about a creative direction, need a sounding board for design direction, or help with working through a knotty knit issue in your pattern writing?
Do you need to write about your creative practice as part of a funding application or portfolio? Sometimes it’s hard to have that critical distance to be able to express how we make…
I can help with that - I have taught at undergraduate and masters level and hold a PhD, with publications in scientific, social science and arts based academic journals as well as non-academic literary and craft magazines.
Let’s talk about how we can work together.
The minimum booking for a mentoring session is 2 hours @£40
You can arrange for additional hours @£20 ph, or a series of sessions
